Statement of Intent

This is the statement of intent that my team and I made for this documentary project. It will help to solidify the meaning and message we want to send with our documentary opening.

The statement was mainly written by both me (Jasmine), and Rachelle. Still, parts of it were added while discussing with our other teammates too.

Reflection:

Making the statement of intent was definitely a lengthy process as we kept on changing details of the plot and characters, not committing until quite late into the project. This made it so we couldn’t make the statement of intent fully because it would be a waste of time if we wrote lengthy explanations for the details that were going to be deleted anyways. I personally worked on the representation and helped with making the message of our documentary opening. I think it was actually quite fun to write this part of the statement of intent because it involved finding the deeper meaning within the details that we placed (such as characters, place and etc.). Although I did have a rough idea while we decided those details, I didn’t actually think about the purpose and way we would represent them until I actually wrote more about it. I think that this also helped us in developing the message too as the way things are represented affect the way that they are perceived by the audience, naturally sending a message (dominant reading by Stuart Hall).
